The national Foster Grandparent Program, started in 1965, is celebrating 45 years of service. The Pioneer Foster Grandparent Program was the first program in the state of Nebraska, beginning in 1972 at Beatrice State Development Center. Blue Valley Community Action Partnership took over the sponsorship role in 1991. In 2012, the Nebraska program will celebrate 40 years of service. Fillmore County volunteers attended a Recognition Dinner held in Beatrice on April 16. The guest speaker was former Senator Dennis Byars, a great supporter of the program.
