4-H Public Speaking Contest

Thirteen 4-Her’s and Clover Kids were awarded ribbons in the Fillmore County 4-H Public Speaking Contest, held April 15 at the Geneva Public Library.

Youths ages 8-18 had the opportunity to participate in the 4-H Public Speaking program. 4-H members in Junior (9-11 years of age), Intermediate (12-13 years of age) and Senior division (14-18 years of age), prepared an original speech or Public Service Announcement about 4-H. 4-H Clover Kids (5-7 years of age) and Novices (8-11 years of age) prepared a speech or recited a favorite story or poem.

The top three youths in the Junior and Intermediate speech and PSA divisions will represent Fillmore County at the Southeast Regional Contest May 27 at the Animal Science Building on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus.

Winners in each division were:

Novice Speech Division: Grand champion, Tori Stoldorf, Grafton; reserve champion, Regan Alfs, Shickley.

Junior Speech Division: Grand champion, Nicole Swartzendruber, Shickley; reserve champion, Alexis Schmidt, Geneva.

Intermediate Speech Division: Grand champion, Megan Swartzendruber, Shickley.

Public Service Announcement Division: Grand champion, Caleb Hendrickson, Shickley.

Also representing Fillmore County at the Regional Public Speaking Contest is John Alfs, Shickley.
