The BDS Eagles hammered the Nebraska Lutheran Knights 73-35 in boys basketball Saturday, Feb. 12 at Waco. The Eagles shot an impressive 69 percent from the field in the contest.

BDS’s Michael Houchin had a good game leading his team in rebounds with seven and getting three steals. He also contributed four assists and scored four points.

“Michael has been a defensive stopper for us all season,” said BDS Coach Fred Kluck. “Now he’s adding some really nice passing and a little scoring to his game.”

The Eagles took the lead 19-10 after the first quarter, and margins of 20-10 and 23-6 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 62-26 going into the final period.

The Eagles heated things up from three-point range, hitting 9 of 18 from long distance.

“We shot the ball really well and did a nice job of finding the open man on the offensive end,” said Coach Kluck. “We also moved our feet and rebounded well defensively.”

BDS improved its record to 18-4, while Nebraska Lutheran dropped to 0-16.

BDS sank 6 of 7 from the line. The Eagles hit 20 of 29 from the field, while Nebraska Lutheran was 9 of 24 from the field. The Knights hit 2 of 7 free throw tries.

BDS held a 33-13 edge on the boards.

“Kendrick and Ryan shot the ball well and also passed the ball well when NL adjusted their defense,” Coach Kluck said. “Between the two they were 6-11 from the three point line and had 15 assists. Derek Swartzendruber and Dylan Lauenstein gave us some strong rebounding adding six each to our total.”
