Do you remember the magic of that first dance you ever attended? The dark gym full of memories old and new? Well on January 12, the Fillmore Central Future Business Leaders of America hosted a middle school dance, creating the experience of a young person’s first dance. The dance was held from 7-10 p.m., in the Senior Center and Downtown Gym in Geneva.
The dance is an annual event that benefits many organizations that FC FBLA supports including: The March of Dimes, Feed Nebraska, the Nebraska Scholarship Fund and the Nebraska FBLA Foundation through the admission charged. This year students could also donate canned items to the food bank.
Approximately 125 middle school students attended the dance. Thirty FBLA members assisted with various tasks to make the event a success. Three members; Wyatt Nun, Braden Myers and Ethan Reinsch, helped Ben Kaye-Skinner, who graciously volunteered to be the DJ, set up all of the equipment for lights and sound. Other members took admissions, facilitated in the game room, sold soda pop, encouraged kids on the dance floor and oversaw the snacks.
Without the help of FC FBLA advisor Cindy Talley, all the parents of FBLA members and middle school students, the Senior Center for allowing us to use their facility (including the gym), and many others, this dance would not have been made possible. Chaperones for the evening included Becky Adkisson, Sheri Shroyer, Brandon Hinrichs, Melissa Myers, Erinn Wulf, Madison Girmus, Crystal Lukes and Kim Shaner. The members of FC FBLA believe that the middle school dance of 2018 was a success on many levels.
