Three Quilts Of Valor Presented

On July 29, Quilts of Valor were presented to Wesley Rippe, Vaughn Nun and Gregory Nun at the Nun "Christmas in July" reunion.
Wesley served as a chaplain's assistant and organist in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957 in Germany. After his honorable discharge from active service in 1957, he served in the Army Reserves until he was honorably discharged in 1961.
Vaughn completed the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps program and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force in 1972 upon graduation from UNL. He completed numerous training schools, upgrading to instructor status and later became the senior standardization evaluation crew radar navigator. He completed flying missions in support of Operation Arc Light. Other assignments he went on to complete include target intelligence planner, operations planner and a dual assignment at the Joint Strategic Target Planning Staff where he was in charge of computer modeling and analysis of the Strategic Air Command's emergency war plans. He assumed command of the Avionics Maintenance Squadron and the Field Maintenance Squadron at McConnell AFB, Kansas. Both squadrons provided maintenance of aircraft supporting Operation Desert Storm/Shield. Vaughn retired in 1993 as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Gregory was inducted into the United States Marine Corps in 1989. He served as an antitank assault man and infantryman. He served in Operation Desert Shield/Storm from 1990-91. He was honorably discharged from the US Marine Corps in 1993. Greg then enlisted into the US Marine Corps reserve. From May to November of 2004, he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served in the Reserves from 1998 to 2006. In 2006, he enlisted in the US Army and Nebraska Army National Guard. He was deployed to Arizona in support of the South West Border Mission in conjunction with the Border Patrol from November 2006 to September 2007. He deployed to Iraq from July 2010-2011. Gregory is still serving in the US Army and Nebraska Army National Guard.
