Panthers Fifth At Roy Horner Invite; Whitley, Wilkins Earn Medals In Friend

The Panthers finished in fifth place in the 12-team Roy Horner Invitational on Wednesday, April 5. Hastings St. Cecilia was the team champions in Friend with a 357 total. Milford was next with Elmwood-Murdock at 364. Shelby/Rising City was fourth at 369 and Fillmore Central came in at 374.  Exeter-Milligan combined to card a 472.
Garrett Whitley and Dakota Wilkins paced the Panthers with a 91 over the challenging Friend Country Club course.  The pair finished in eighth and ninth, respectively.
"Strong winds and fast greens wrecked havoc to our team," Panther coach Mitch Lockhart said. "We continue to struggle to adjust to course conditions, combined with poor course management so far has been a recipe for large scores and golfers feeling defeated. We have to learn to play within our games and adjust early to conditions.  In order to see success, our golfers have to learn to take the strategies and shot selection we use in practice to the course in competition. The pressure of tournament play is something we are definitely struggling with."
Whitley's rounds on Wednesday were 48 and 43. Wilkins combined rounds of 47 and 44.  Trevor Swartz landed in 24th place with scores of 49 and 46.  Shalin Bhakta rounded out the top four with a 97 (49 and 48) for 30th. Tanner Ourada was one back at with two rounds of 49 (98).
Evan True was tops for the Timberwolf golfers on April 5 firing rounds of 54 and 49 for a total of 98 (32nd).
