Competing in the stacked D-4 District Meet last Wednesday, Exeter qualified one girl athlete and five boys to this weekend's NSAA State Track & Field Champions. Timberwolf Trevor Luzum will be competing in four individual events in Omaha, while teammate Trystan Brandt will compete in both jumps and run a leg in E-M's fifth-fastest qualifying 1,600-meter relay team. Joining Brandt on the squad will be Eric Olsen, Jack Dinneen and Sam Zeleny. E-M freshman Kate Jansky is the lone Timberwolf girl to qualify. Jansky will compete in the 3,200-meter run this Friday beginning at 11:55 a.m., at Burke Stadium.
Brandt will compete in the third flight in the long jump in Omaha after winning districts with a leap of 20-feet, 8.5-inches. The E-M will also be in the third flight in the triple jump (41-10) in Omaha with Luzum competing in the second flight. The triple jump starts at noon this Friday with the long jump beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Luzum will kick things off for E-M this Friday as he competes in the high jump (district champion, 6-0). Luzum joins rival Hunter Krehnke of BDS in Heat 3 of the 110-meter high hurdles. The E-M junior has the second-fastest qualifying time in Heat 3 of the 300-meter hurdles and draws the comfortable post of lane 5.
E-M also had its share of near-misses on May 11. Jack Dinneen cleared 12-0 to place fourth in the pole vault at Sandy Creek. Zeleny checked in third in the 800-meter run last Wednesday. The Timberwolf boys 3,200-meter relay squad of Dinneen, Mitchell Manning, Colton Bossaller and Zeleny finished a disappointing third (9:07.2). Tara Mueller heaved the shot 34-10.75 to place third and just miss State.
Other district results for E-M included Patrick Murphy, fifth, high jump, and fourth, 110-meter hurdles; Elliot Erdkamp, sixth, 110-meter hurdles; boys 400-meter relay team of Bossaller, Giovanni Tadini, Erdkamp and Cameron White, fifth, 48.2; Hannah Beethe, sixth, high jump; Hailey Luzum, fifth, long jump; Beethe, fifth, 100-meter hurdles; Beethe, fourth, 300-meter hurdles; Jansky, fourth, 1,600-meter run; and the E-M girls 400-meter relay squad of Luzum, Josie Kresak, Samantha Horne and Hannah Horne, fifth, 54.8.
