BDS Girls Improve To 18-5

On Monday, February 8, Bruning-Davenport/Shickley tangled with Meridian. Megan Grote and Lexi Kadel each scored five points in the opening quarter to help the Eagles put up 21 and hold Meridian to 12.  The second quarter scoring was almost even.  Carley Elznic scored 12 of her team-high 16 points in the second half along with Catherine Mick who scored nine of her 15 points also in the second half in the 67-46 win.
"The girls shot the ball exceptionally well from beyond the arc tonight shooting going 11-for-20 for 55 percent on the evening," Eagle coach Shana Gerberding noted.  The Eagles had 20 assists on the night with Lexi Kadel dishing out six of them to go with seven rebounds and 11 points.
"It was fun to watch the girls run the court and pass the ball like they did," Gerberding said. "They are a very unselfish team and are always willing to make the pass to the open girl."
On Tuesday, February 9, BDS hosted Osceola.  Osceola came out ready to plan and shot 50 percent from the field in the first quarter to take a 14-8 lead.
"We struggled early on to find any sense of rhythm both offensively and defensively in the first quarter," Gerberding said.  "It’s always hard to play on consecutive nights but you have to be mentally ready to play every time you step onto the floor."
In the second quarter, BDS found its way and put up 17 behind Kadel’s 11 points.  Defensively, the Eagles turned up the heat and were able to hold Osceola to just 5 points and took a 6 point lead going to intermission.  The Eagles won 50-41. McKenna Schardt added 11 points and Grote scored 10.
The Eagles hosted High Plains to end the regular season on Friday.
"Our defensive pressure took its toll on High Plains in the second half and they could only manage eight points compared to 32 by  us," Gerberding said. Carley Elznic scored 12 points and hauled in 17 rebounds in the 68-23 victory.  Schardt grabbed 11 rebounds to go with her 11 points.  Mick led the Eagles in scoring with 16 and Grote also chipped in 12.  The Eagles finish the regular season at 18-5.
