E-M Wins 30th Game In A Row

Two-point conversions matter.  They really do.
Exeter-Milligan successfully converted both of its two-point conversions Friday night (one a Sam Zeleny rush, the other a Sean Maxson rush) and Giltner was only successful on one PAT, as the Timberwolves recorded win No. 30 in-a-row by prevailing over the Hornets 16-14 in Giltner.
The Hornets struck first on September 25 when quarterback Brett Good scampered in from nine yards. The two-point conversion was no good.  In the second quarter, Zeleny plunged in from one-yard out for the score.  With the successful PAT, E-M (4-0) was up 8-6 at intermission on the soggy field in Giltner.
The 2-2 Hornets hit paydirt in the third quarter when Good hooked up with Josh Hinrichs for a 37-yard pitch and catch.  The PAT pass was good.  Just into the final stanza, Zeleny crashed in again from the one-yard line.  Maxson added the PAT and the Timberwolves were up for good 16-14.
E-M managed to keep the Hornets out of the endzone for the game's final 10 minutes.
The Timberwolves had two players eclipse the 100-yard rushing marker in the big win.  Maxson ran for 111 yards on 22 carries for E-M and Zeleny rushed for 107 yards on 25 attempts.  Trevor Luzum toted the rock eight times for 33 yards.  The Timberwolves outrushed Giltner 251-180 in the victory.  Zeleny went 2-for-3 in the air for 11 yards—10 to Jack Dinneen and a one-yard pass to Eric Olsen.  The Hornets passed for 138 yards.
The contest, which was played on a rain-soaked and sloshy field in Giltner, saw plenty of penalties as E-M was whistled five times for 50 yards and the Hornets were tagged for 75 penalty yards on eight infractions.  Giltner had two turnovers compared to just one for E-M.  The Timberwolf defense limited the Hornets to just 1-of-11 third-down conversions and 1-of-7 fourth down conversions.
Dinneen logged eight stops for E-M, while Zeleny had 7.5.  Luzum notched seven tackles while Maxson had 6.5.  Johnathon Mounce was credited with six tackles and Olsen had 3.5.  Kirby Soukup and Spencer Papik had 2.5 and 1.5 tackles, respectively.  Luzum logged 37 return yards in the road victory. Dinneen and Luzum both picked off Giltner passes on Friday.
Undefeated E-M hosts fellow unbeaten Lawrence/Nelson (4-0) this Friday night in Milligan.
