Fillmore Central could not overcome a speedy and talented Hastings St. Cecilia Friday night in a meeting of early-season unbeatens in Geneva.  After battling to a 7-7 standstill after one quarter, the Blue Hawks scored 28 second-quarter points en route to a 58-7 victory.
"The Panthers ran into a very, very good team on Friday night," FC head coach Ryan Komenda said.  "We started off with a very impressive 14-play, 81-yard drive to take the lead 7-0.  After that, it was difficult stopping the very speedy Blue Hawks.  We will move forward and continue to get better."
The 2-1 Panthers travel to Sandy Creek (1-2) this Friday night for a 7 p.m. kick-off in rural Fairfield.
After the initial series, FC had trouble finding any offensive consistency against a quick, aggressive HSC defense.  Cody Whitehead rushed for 26 yards on the night.  The Panther senior is averaging 65.7 yards a contest this season.  Riley Chapman snagged a misdirection screen pass for a score on Friday.  Chapman has accumulated 174 yards of total offense this year.  Leyton Hopken threw for 39 yards and a touchdown against the Blue Hawks and is 9-for-16 for 154 yards and two TDs for the season.
Aaron Poppert paced the FC defense with 13 tackles.  Parker Trowbridge added eight tackles for the home team and Isaac Klar added six stops.  Matt Hogue also tallied five tackles for the Panthers.
Komenda tabbed Carson Scott as this week's Scout Player of the Week and Gatlin Motis as his team's Practice Player of the Week.  Trevor Swartz was the Panther Courage Player of the Week and Poppert was this week's Team Player.
Last Friday, FC rolled past Superior 34-3 at home.
"We played an efficient game against the Wildcats," Panther head coach Ryan Komenda said.  "We jumped out to a 14-0 lead and never looked back.  We got a lot of our younger players some experience which will help us down the road."
Cody Whitehead toted the rock 12 times for 103 yards and two TDs against Superior.  Aaron Poppert hauled in a 24-yard touchdown catch against the Wildcats and Tanner Ourada had 34 receiving yards.  Riley Chapman hit paydirt once and converted on a two-point conversion.
Jesiah Rasmussen and Chapman paced the FC defense with 10 and nine tackles, respectively.  Parker Trowbridge notched eight tackles and Poppert had seven stops.  Both Isaac Klar and Whitehead tallied a half dozen tackles.
Panther Josh Taylor turned in a dazzling 96-yard kick-off return touchdown for the home team.
Komenda mentioned Eli Miller and Trowbridge as his squad's Courage Players; Whitehead, Rasmussen and Poppert as Team Players and Rasmussen and Hogue as outstanding Lineman.  Corey Maloley was tabbed as Practice Player of the Week by Komenda and Ourada was noted as the team's Scout Team Player of the Week.
