It took 14 years and overtime but Fillmore Central downed Sutton in boys basketball action Friday night in Geneva. Behind 15 points by junior forward Leyton Hopken and a solid 11-for-15 performance from the charity stripe, the Panthers defeated the Mustangs 39-35 in overtime. The February 13 victory is the first time in FC school history that the Panther boys have beaten the basketball tradition-rich Sutton program. FC just missed last week, falling to the Mustangs by a point in SNC Tournament action in Sutton.
The Panthers led Sutton 20-14 at the break on Friday but failed mightily in the third period to score. The Mustangs were up 26-24 entering the final stanza—a quarter where defense was paramount. Both squads ended regulation at 30. FC (10-11) won the overtime period, 9-5.
Lance Donovan scored eight points in the win over the Mustangs and Adam Hoarty added seven. Hunter Kleinschmidt tossed in five points and both Matt Loseke and Thomas Norvell added two.

Teammate Lance Donovan laced in 16 points against the Cougars and Hunter Kleinschmidt added six. Adam Hoarty netted five points in the road win and Noah Temme contributed four. Both Conrad Schelkopf and Thomas Norvell added a bucket in the victory.
Sandy Creek led the contest 34-33 at the break. The Panthers shot a red-hot 53 percent from the field in the contest (30-for-56) and made 9-of-10 free throws attempted.
