Today Show staffer filming in Milligan

Mike Leonard with NBC’s Today Show arrived in Milligan two days before the dedication activities and spent time interviewing and filming prior to the dedication of the three new Nebraska State Historical Markers. He met with several local residents who recalled their memories of the three midair collisions.

While in Fillmore County, Leonard filmed the crash sites; the windows of the Milligan Auditorium and Legion, which displayed photographs of the 32 airmen; and the WWII displays set up in the Auditorium and along the streets of downtown Milligan. He also interviewed relatives of the airmen who arrived in Milligan on Friday afternoon, taped the relatives’ tour of the Fairmont Army Air Base, took photographs of the relatives at the historical markers, accompanied an airman’s daughter to her father’s crash site and taped the 1 p.m. Dedication Ceremony on Highway 41.

Leonard has indicated that the story regarding the activities sponsored by the Milligan Memorial Committee and the Milligan community, centering around the dedication of the markers and the efforts to locate the relatives of the airmen should air on NBC within the next couple of weeks.
