The Ford Center for the Performing Arts was the stage for the University of Mississippi's Doctoral Hooding Ceremony on May 7. Among those graduates earning their degree during this past academic year is Zachary D. Baumann, son of Jim and Roxann Baumann, of Grafton.

Baumann earned his doctorate of philosophy in political science this past December with a major field in American politics and minor fields in comparative politics and political methodology. Baumann's dissertation examines the career decisions of state legislators and their motivation for staying in office.

Following the completion of his degree, Baumann was appointed as instructional assistant professor at the University of Mississippi and will be joining the faculty at Pennsylvania State University this fall as lecturer in political science.

Grandparents are Marian Baumann of Grafton and Jack Eliason, formerly of Sutton, now residing in Geneva.
