Mick Siblings Set New Pole Vault Meet Records At Russ Snyder Invite

With several athletes nursing injuries and others competing in different events prior to this week's District action, the Bruning-Davenport/Shickley boys finished in third position at the 2010 Russ Snyder Invite at Sandy Creek. The Eagle girls landed in fifth position at the six-team meet on May 6. Blue Hill won the girls and boys team titles.

Winning events for the B-D/S boys on Thursday included William Mick, who cleared 13-feet, 8.25 inches to win the pole vault and break the Meet Record set by Doug Holtzen of Davenport back in 1987. Teammate Derek Swartzendruber cleared 5-10 to win the high jump on May 6 and Mitch Schroeder captured the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 15.5 seconds.

Eagle Cynthia Mick joined her older brother to set a New Meet Record in the pole vault by clearing 9-10. Her championship effort surpassed the previous record set in 2003 by Harvard's Audra Leichleiter. Mick picked up another gold medal on the day after winning the 300-meter hurdles in 50.5 seconds. Teammate Erika Schroeder won the 1,600-meter run in Sandy Creek in a time of 5:59.3.

B-D/S will compete in the D-7 District meet this Wednesday at Wilcox.
