Panther Boys Improve To 7-2

The Fillmore Central boys basketball team improved to 7-2 on the season and No. 9 in wildcard points in Class C-2 with a pair of road wins last week.  The Panthers downed 4-6, Class C-1 Central City 68-56 on Thursday and thumped 5-8, Class C-2 Superior 50-17 on Saturday night.
FC blanked the homecourt Wildcats 22-0 in the first quarter on January 9 en route to the landslide win.  The Panthers led 37-10 at the break and held Superior to just seven second-half points on 6-for-24 shooting (25 percent) for the game.
Meanwhile, FC shot a blistering 52 percent from the floor (20-for-38) and drained five 3-pointers.  The Panthers held a 18-14 advantage on the glass and forced 24 Wildcat turnovers.  FC also made 14 steals in the win.  An only down stat would be the Panthers' 5-for-15 performance (35 percent) from the charity stripe.
Leyton Hopken paced the FC offense in Superior with 14 points.  Adam Hoarty and Kole Karcher both swished in eight points.  Noah Temme netted seven points and Nate Rasmussen added four points.  Both Matt Hogue and Garrett Whitley contributed three points and Aaron Poppert added a bucket. Riley Chapman sank a free throw.
Hopken pulled down four rebounds and Temme and Hogue both snagged three boards.  Temme dished out four assists and swiped a game-high six steals.
The Panthers hosted Malcolm on Tuesday of this week before travelling to Wood River on Thursday night.  FC hosts Heartland this Saturday night in Geneva at 7:30 p.m.
