Timberwolves Advance To State

Exeter-Milligan won its 24th straight match with a straight sets victory over outgunned Pawnee City in the D1-1 District Final Thursday night at Tri County High School. The 30-1 Timberwolves also earned an automatic berth in the 2010 NSAA State Class D-1 Volleyball Tournament with the 25-15, 25-21, 25-11 win over the Indians.

E-M, the defending Class D-1 State Champions who had reservations already sewn up for Grand Island because of wildcard points, will be the top-seed in their quest for a repeat title. The Timberwolves will play 15-16 Sutherland this Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Grand Island Northwest High School in first-round action.

With a win, E-M will play again on Friday at 2 p.m. at Grand Island Senior High against the Axtell (27-2) and 26-8 West Point Central Catholic winner. The Class D-1 championship match is slated for 4:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island.

Heather Pribyl hammered home 16 kills for the Timberwolves in their victory over PC on November 4. Jackie Luzum smacked 13 kills and Claire White added nine terminations for E-M. Megan Zwickl pounded six kills against the Indians and Taylor Slezak added two.

Kelsey Moore tallied 26 ace sets in the district-final win and Taylor Erdkamp contributed 13 assists. Slezak also recorded three ace sets.

Moore and Pribyl cracked three ace serves in the victory and Cassie Harre added two ace serves.

White paced the Timberwolf defense with nine digs and two ace blocks. Harre tallied five digs and Moore recorded four. Luzum had four digs. Zwickl, Slezak and Pribyl all tallied two ace blocks for the victors.
