Eagles Fly On

The Bruning-Davenport/Shickley Eagles defeated the Scribner-Snyder Trojans 56-12 in eight-man football action Thursday, Oct. 28 at Bruning in a game where the Eagles piled up 428 total yards.

The game was the first round of the D-1 State Football Playoffs. Bruning-Davenport/Shickley improved its season mark to 6-3.

“We spoke with the team before the game about what kind of team either school would have had, if we wouldn’t have cooped,” said Bruning-Davenport/Shickley Coach Kevin Willems. “How this would have been just another Friday night leading up to basketball season. We talked about team unity, how we had come together as a team and we didn't want this ride to end. We talked about playing our own positions and not trying to play everyone else’s spot. As things went, we played one of our best games of the year. We felt that Scribner-Snyder would be comparable to some of the better teams we faced this year. We were very pleased with the effort the team displayed.”

The Eagles jumped ahead 14-0 after the first quarter, led 34-0 at halftime, and then led 50-0 going into the fourth quarter.

The next game for Bruning-Davenport/Shickley will be against Bancroft-Rosalie on Wednesday, Nov. 3 at Bancroft, 5 p.m.
