Eagle Boys Fly Past Giltner By 20

On Friday, the Giltner Hornets boys team showed up in Davenport for a mid-season CRC game with the Bruning-Davenport/Shickley Eagles.  The Hornets came in at 6-3 and the Eagles sat at 10-1.
The game proved to be a defensive struggle, as both teams play physical man-to-man and limit easy baskets as well as handling the ball and trying to get good shots on offense.  Several times in the first quarter, BDS opened up a small lead only to see Giltner get a basket and tighten things back up.  As the first period wound down, Kale Kleinschmidt hit a driving runner in the lane to give the Eagles a 12-7 lead.
The second quarter saw BDS again try to pull away and Giltner hang tough as the Eagles entered half time leading 25-15.
“We just couldn’t seem to shake them,” commented Eagle head coach Fred Kluck.  “Every time we started to get a little run going they came right back and cut into our lead.”
BDS came out of the locker room and attacked well on the offensive end to start the third stanza and Caden Norder really opened things up with a 3-point shot at the buzzer to finally allow the Eagles to breathe a little easier as the quarter ended with BDS on top 39-22.  The fourth period saw a lot of players getting onto the floor and the game ended with BDS winning 49-29.
Riley Tegtmeier led the way in scoring for the Eagles with 15 points, while Kendall Dickson came off the bench to score eight while adding six rebounds.
“Kendall is starting to get his feet under him,” Kluck said.  “It takes a while to learn how each team does what it does on both ends of the court and when you transfer your senior year, there’s a lot to try to get figured out and not a lot of time to do it.”
Others who scored were Caden Norder with 7, Stuart Rohr, Ben Elznic and Cody Garland with 5 each, and Kale Kleinschmidt and Sam Christensen, who each added 2.  Kale had a team-high 4 assists while Stuart pulled down a team leading 9 rebounds while helping to hold Giltner's leading scorer to just 8 points.
BDS will be in action over in Beatrice this week playing in the MUDECAS conference tournament.  The Eagles currently sit No. 2 in wildcard points in Class D-1.
