Panthers Improve To 4-2

The Fillmore Central Panthers edged the Fairbury Jeffs 23-21 in football action Friday, Oct. 8 at Fairbury in a game dominated by a 389-yard rushing performance by FC.

“We played a very good game against the Jeffs,” Panther coach Ryan Komenda said. “We amassed 430 yards of total offense, but managed to score only 23 points and leave them in the ball game. We left a lot of points on the field. We had five drives inside Fairbury territory in the first half, but could only put 10 points on the board. We need to capitalize when we get in the red zone.”

“The offensive line played very well as we rushed for 389 yards and only passed for 41,” Komenda said. “Kyle Kremer had 25 carries for 180 yards and 2 TDs. Tanner Leick had 27 carries for 157 yards and 1 TD. Austin Scott had two extra points and kicked a field goal. Kyle Karcher was 2-for-8 for 41 yards passing—Shawn Yates had both catches.”

The 4-2 Panthers jumped in front 10-0 after the opening period, went into the locker room up 10-7 at halftime, and then led 17-14 going into the fourth quarter.

“Defensively, the Panthers were led by Trevor Dohrman with 11 tackles and Luke DeLong had 9,” said Komenda. “Tanner Leick had 7 tackles and Shawn Yates had 6. We finally got to the quarterback in the second half and recorded four sacks. Players of the game were: practice player, Chris Ulmer; scout player, Thane Motis; courage player, Trey Wrich; team players, Tanner Leick, Austin Scott, Evan Hubert and Issack Bridges.”
